Krishnasamy College of Science, Arts and Management for Women have emerged as a leading academicinstitution in the district of Cuddalore at 2007. The visionary founders of the institution were ambitious to transform the society through educating women. Hence, the institution was started for the benefit of the young rural girls. Library is a heart of an institution which collect, store and transmit update information to the teachers, students and those engaged in research

The Kcsam Central Library accommodated in 3244 square feet has a seating capacity of 200 students, in the readingroom.Ithas12175books,subscriptionfor16Journals,8Magazinesand8Dailynewspapers.Thelibraryhastheprovision for E-resources. through 12 computers. About 2000 e-books and other free e-journals are available forthe PG and M.Phil students. The students are permitted to attend the online courses. Apart from this, 6 PGdepartmentshavetheirdepartmentallibrarieswhereinabout1000booksareavailableforimmediatereferencesforthestaffandstudents.

The Kcsam Central Library subscribed DELNET, which encourages the users to explore the knowledge. DELNET is a great boon for faculty, researchers, scholars, students, etc. The Kcsam Central Library has MOU with the Cuddalore District Central Library and DELNET. Under these MOU, the Department conducted academic exchange programmes to enhance knowledge of the students.

Rules of Library

The Library is open from 9.00 am to 5.00pm on all the working days

Students and Staff should scan their ID card in the E- Gate Register and also sign the gate entry register while entering and leaving.

Entered the library strict silence should be maintained

Personal books or any printed materials and any other personal things should be kept the personal belongings place.

Library books that can be issued to students / staff for the stipulated time as given below:

If the due date falls during holiday, the next working day will be considered as the due date.

If any book is lost or damaged beyond repair, the person shall be responsible to replace it with a new copy or to pay the double of the cost.

The books must be returned on the due date positively. If one fails to return the book on time, she will have to pay a fine of Rs. 5/- per book per day.

Reference Books, Newspapers, Journals, Dissertations / Thesis can be accessed and referred only in the library.

Using mobile phone is strictly prohibited.

Software:

Library is automated through the software “NIRMAL” with 1.0.0.0 version. This software is developed by Nirmal Institue of Computer Expertise (NICE). Book database is created along with user’s database. Book issues and return process is automated. Bibliographic Control System is the Catalog Module. Here Data Entry for Monographs and Articles (Journal/Books) is done. Data Validation at every field level given. Maximum throughput with Title case provided. NIRMAL software supports Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).

Features of NIRMAL software (ILMS):

NIRMAL software is a platform that helps to manage their collections and operations more effectively.

1. Cataloging:

NIRMAL software includes a cataloging module that enables librarians to create and manage bibliographic records for books, journals, and other materials. This module can automate many aspects of the cataloging process, making it faster and more accurate.

2. Scanning:

The library has integrated bar-coded scanning and uses systems application and product software for automation. Every book has a bar-code, and the circulation desk uses a bar-code laser scanner to process book transactions. Faculties and students use bar-code scanning of the ID card to access the library.

3. Gate Entry login:

The footfall entry monitoring system is used to record the entry and exit of the registered visitors to the library by using the bar-code scanning of the ID card

4. Circulation:

The circulation module of an ILMS handles checkouts, returns, and renewals of library materials. With an ILMS, librarians can track who has borrowed books, when it is due back, and whether it has been returned on time.

5. Subscription to e-resources:

NIRMAL software is designed to accommodate the management of both physical and digital resources. Library seamlessly offers e-books, online journals and other electronic materials. The National Digital Library of India (NDLI), NPTEL's active local chapter. Direct access to DELNET e-journals, a premium online publication. The Indian government's SWAYAM program, NPTEL video courses, and other e-learning materials are available in the library.

Activities of Library:

The library is optimally used by the faculty and students. Library motivate the students and faculty for optimal usage of library by various activities like “Library Week Celebration”, “Vasipai Nesipom”, and “Neradi Thodarpil”.

“Neradi Thodarpil” is a vital and valued daily activity in the library. It was started on 12.02.2019.Through “Neradi Thodarpil” we are providing a useful information, awareness in social issues, employability available, current affairs etc. from the newspaper during 1.00 pm to 1.15 pm (lunch hour).

As a part library activity, “Vasipai Nesipom” was conducted twice in a month by various department.This exhibit helps to know about the authors in detail and their role in society.Beneficiaries of this activity are from various department students.

Every year,we celebrate Library Week Celebration in the remembrance of Dr.S.R.Ranganathan, the father of Library Science and Information during the second week of August. Various activities and competitions like paper presentation, drawing, speech, collage, special speech, play enact, photography, word hub etc are conducted to create comfort to access the library. Library also conducting World Book Day celebration, Librarians’ day and Seminars

The library has a good collections of books, Competitive examination books, Journals, Magazine & Newspapers, CD’s, Back Volumes of Journals, Thesis, Question bank covering various departments.Books are arranged according to the need and interest of the students, following the “Dewey Decimal Classification System” .
